The Kansas City Comets started as the in 1979, the second season of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). In 1980, they moved to San Francisco where they became the . In 1981, they moved to Kansas City and became the Comets. In Missouri, they were a huge success on the pitch and at the gate. They folded in 1991, but their spirit lives on as the new Kansas City Comets of the Major Arena Soccer League.
